KARAK: A new and worrying wave of terrorism has emerged in Karak district where the Frontier Constabulary (FC) fort located within the limits of Khurram police station was targeted by a quadcopter (drone) resulting five FC personnel were injured.
According to DPO Karak, the FC fort located in the area of Khurram police station was suddenly attacked by a quadcopter. The personnel were on duty at the time of the attack when they were hit by an explosion from the air.
Immediately after the incident, a heavy contingent of police reached the spot and surrounded and sealed the entire area.
All five personnel injured in the blast have been immediately shifted to a nearby hospital where they are being provided medical assistance. The injured have been identified as Havaldar Sabir’ Sepoy Amin, Sepoy Zohaib, Sepoy Murad, Sepoy Yousuf
After the attack, police and security forces under the supervision of DPO Karak have cordoned off the area. A massive search operation has been launched to find the absconding elements and the masterminds of the attack.
The district administration has imposed an emergency in hospitals so that the injured can get the best possible treatment.
According to security experts, the use of quadcopters (drones) in an area like Karak indicates a dangerous change in the modus operandi of terrorism, for which the security forces are now considering modern counter-drone technology.
Tensions remain high in the area and entry and exit routes are being closely monitored.
