LAHORE: Punjab Police paid tribute to Pakistan Army Officer Captain Asmad Shaheed and his companions for their supreme sacrifice. The mortal remains of Captain Asmad were led with full honours by the Memorial Pilot Squad of Lahore Traffic Police.

Officers and personnel of the City Traffic Police Lahore showered flower petals at all major intersections on Mall Road, paying heartfelt homage to the martyred officer. The atmosphere echoed with slogans honouring the sacrifices of the martyrs.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Dr Athar Waheed said that the martyrs of the Pakistan Army are a source of pride for the entire nation. He added that the sacrifices of the martyrs will always be remembered and that peace in the country is possible due to their unmatched bravery.

It is pertinent to mention that three people, including a Pakistan Army officer and a soldier, were martyred during a snow-clearing operation at Burzil Pass in Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations, an operation was underway on the night between January 2 and 3 to clear snow and reopen Burzil Pass when an avalanche struck, trapping Captain Asmad, a soldier, and machine operators.

ISPR stated that rescue teams recovered all four individuals from the snow; however, Captain Asmad, Sepoy Rizwan, and machine operator Issa embraced martyrdom during the incident.
