The Punjab government has taken strict measures to protect public peace and order and religious and political sentiments and has banned kites with images of Imran Khan and the writing of prisoner 804.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, there will be a complete ban on the manufacture, purchase, sale, and use of kites with religious and political images for 30 days. The government has made it clear that during Basant, it will be prohibited to use kites with any political symbol or picture of any personality. Apart from this, kites with the flag of any country or political party are also banned. Only single-colored or multi-colored kites will be legal on the occasion of Basant, which should not have any political or religious symbols.

Strictness of the law and enforcement of Section 144 Section 144 has been imposed to prevent provocations during Basant and maintain public peace and order. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to take immediate and strict action against those involved in the illegal manufacture, transportation, storage, sale, and use of kites.

The Punjab government has made it clear that flying kites before the stipulated dates or using prohibited materials can lead to imprisonment for up to 5 years and a fine of up to Rs 2 million. If a person manufactures or sells prohibited kites or materials, he can be imprisoned for up to 7 years and fined up to Rs 5 million.

The Deputy Commissioner Lahore has issued a notification for Basant 2026 under the Punjab Kite Flying Act 2025. The government has allowed Basant to be celebrated safely as a fun festival, but any kind of lawlessness or provocation will not be tolerated.

The spokesperson added that there is a complete ban on the use of metal wire, nylon, or glass-coated strings so that no one is harmed during Basant. The Punjab government has appealed to the public to fully follow the restrictions and celebrate Basant with peace and order.
