Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its allied parties will formally submit names of opposition leaders to the National Assembly and Senate Secretariat today.

According to sources, PTI’s parliamentary party has approved the name of Mahmood Khan Achakzai for the opposition leader in the National Assembly. He is currently head of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, and has come forward to become the common voice of the opposition. An important development has also come in the Senate, where the opposition has decided to nominate Allama Nasir Abbas as the opposition leader. Allama Nasir Abbas is the leader of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen and is considered an effective and active voice in the opposition ranks.

Party sources said that the names of the two leaders will be formally submitted to the National Assembly and Senate Secretariats today so that the opposition’s representation in the upper and lower houses can be effectively taken forward.

According to political observers, this move is a manifestation of mutual consultation and coordination between the opposition parties, which is being considered a major development in the current political scenario.
