Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held an extraordinary meeting late at night in which they expressed confidence over the candidacy of nominated Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi.
The meeting was held at the Speaker’s House, in which PTI’s central leader, General Secretary Salman Akram Raja, former Speaker National Assembly, Asad Qaiser, Provincial Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, Provincial President Junaid Akbar, and other important members of the assembly attended. Chief Minister candidate Sohail Afridi was also present in the meeting.
The meeting decided to implement the constitutional and parliamentary procedure for the election of the Chief Minister, while the party unanimously expressed confidence in the leadership of Sohail Afridi. In addition, in view of the constitutional complications in the resignation of Ali Amin Gandapur, a new, handwritten resignation was prepared and sent to the governor. Party sources say that after the new resignation, there will be no need to bring a no-confidence motion. After the meeting, provincial president Junaid Akbar said that PTI currently has 92 votes and the target is to get 100 votes. He said that contacts are also ongoing with other political parties for the election of the chief minister.
In today’s session of the Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, a formal response will also be given to the recent allegations levelled against PTI. Due to this political development, the political atmosphere in the province has become heated, and the next 24 hours may prove to be very important.
