PESHAWAR: The deployment of Rescue 1122 resources for a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally in Peshawar has raised concerns about the neutrality of the emergency service, as ambulances, fire vehicles, and even a mobile medical camp were utilised at the political gathering.
According to reports, the decision was taken on the instructions of the current Director General of Rescue 1122. Officials confirmed that the diversion of vehicles and staff directly impacted routine emergency services across the province.
For the first time in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s history, a Rescue 1122 mobile medical camp was set up at a political event, where medical assistance was provided to participants. Fire vehicles were also seen sprinkling water at the venue to suppress dust.
Observers noted that, similar to past political events, Rescue 1122’s equipment and vehicles, originally dedicated to public service, were pressed into use. The move has prompted criticism and raised serious questions regarding the organisation’s neutrality and professional mandate.
