Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Islamabad chapter requested the Election Commission of Pakistan to extend the date of nomination papers for three days, as 1125 contesting candidates wished to file nomination papers.
The application states that the Election Commission should extend nomination papers by three days, keeping in view the nomination of the 1125 candidates. In the first phase of municipal elections, 1125 councillors of 125 union councils have been given less time to file nomination papers.
President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Ameer Mughal said that the Municipalities Act 2015 has been amended on malicious grounds to create a law that promotes rigging and horse trading. Direct election of the chairman and vice chairman has been abolished. A law has been made so that councillors can be pressured after winning and their loyalties can be changed.
The application stated that despite this, they will participate fully in the municipalities because people hate the PML-N and its allies, Amir Mughal said. It is to mentioned here that the Election Commission has taken away the PTI election symbol “Bate and it is expected that Amir Mughal will declare himself as a candidate of the “Sunni Ittehad Council” in his nomination papers.
