PESHAWAR (Shahi Jan): An internal rift has surfaced within the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) district Peshawar, leading to the resignation of several office-bearers from party positions, party sources said on Friday.
According to sources, Zahid Gul and Malik Khalid have resigned from the PTI district Peshawar cabinet. Additionally, Zafar Khan, the general secretary of Mathra tehsil, has also tendered his resignation, which he submitted to PTI district president Irfan Saleem.
Party sources said that Zafar Khan stepped down due to a tussle over the post of president of Mathra tehsil. They said the general secretary was aspiring to become the tehsil president but decided to resign after another individual was announced for the position.
Sources further said that the announcement of the Mathra tehsil president was made without consultation, which caused dissatisfaction within party ranks. Following the decision, two more members of the PTI Peshawar district cabinet also resigned in protest.
The resignations have highlighted internal differences within the party’s district organisation, though PTI leadership has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
