The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is taking strict action against the poor service of telecom companies and has imposed fines of Rs. 68.9 million for substandard service.
According to the document, 9,000 mobile sites across the country are facing poor network availability issues, with network availability affected by prolonged load shedding and right-of-way issues. According to the document, the network is also affected due to limited access to commercial electricity, theft and sabotage incidents. The quality of service in KP, Balochistan, and GB has deteriorated to an alarming level.
The document states that despite the claims of the operators, the network availability has not reached the license standard. A large number of complaints of mobile phone service disruptions and internet problems across the country have been reported.
In the first half of the year, the PTA received more than 8,000 complaints related to the service, out of which 99.17 percent of the complaints were resolved. The document states that 11 cases related to PTA fines are still pending in the courts.
Most of the complaints belong to rural areas of Buner, Shangla, Swat, Dir Upper, and Chitral. The routine activities of the people in these areas have been badly affected due to poor signals of the telecom companies operating in the mentioned localities.
