A fake notification regarding the appointment of the Chief of Defence Forces has gone viral on social media and was even broadcast by some mainstream television channels.
The federal government dismissed this widely circulating social media notification as false, stating that an official announcement regarding the appointment of a “Chief of Defence Forces (CDF)” will only be made after the proper procedures are followed.
Officials have stated that the notification, which falsely named Field Marshal Asim Munir as the appointee, is fabricated and holds no legal or administrative authority. They urged the public to rely on official channels for accurate information relating to defence matters.
The fraudulent notification spread quickly across various social media platforms earlier in the day, leading to confusion regarding senior military appointments. However, authorities clarified that no such order has been issued by any competent ministry or department.
Government representatives warned that the circulation of forged documents can provoke public unrest and undermine trust in institutions. They emphasized that disinformation campaigns are a growing challenge and indicated that further action could be taken against those responsible for disseminating the fake notification.
Officials reiterated that any legitimate announcements regarding the armed forces will only be released through verified government channels.
