ISLAMABAD: A weekly report on the prices of essential commodities has shown mixed trends across the country. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the cost of nine essential items decreased, 18 items became more expensive, while the prices of 24 items remained stable.
The report noted a decline in the prices of several key items over the past week. Potato prices fell by 7.81%, onions by 6.66%, salt powder by 1.36%, flour by 1.17%, masoor lentils by 0.75%, eggs by 0.30%, jaggery by 0.24%, and basmati rice by 0.08%.
Conversely, prices of some essential goods increased. Tomato prices rose by 7.53%, chicken by 3.25%, bananas by 3.07%, LPG by 1.56%, mash lentils by 1.49%, chana lentils by 1.31%, red chili powder by 0.66%, moong lentils by 0.61%, firewood by 0.37%, 2.5 kg ghee by 0.32%, and cigarettes by 0.24%.
While the weekly report showed short-term decreases in some commodities, annual trends still reflect an overall increase in essential goods, highlighting ongoing inflationary pressures in the country.
