ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the Indus Waters Treaty remains a guarantor of equitable water distribution in the region and called for its full implementation to be restored.
In a message issued on the occasion of World Water Day, the president noted that this year’s theme, Water and Gender, highlights the importance of inclusive access to water resources.
He said that in many parts of Pakistan, people continue to rely on unsafe water sources, stressing that access to clean drinking water and proper sanitation is a basic right.
President Zardari emphasised that ensuring safe water supply should be a national priority, calling for effective management of water resources and increased investment in the sector.
Referring to the Indus Waters Treaty, he said it guarantees fair distribution of water in the region and urged India to fully adhere to the agreement.
