ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari, after the court’s decision in a forged degree case, has given the green light to the removal of Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri from the position of a judge of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

In a statement from the President’s Secretariat, it was also mentioned that the consent was accorded as per the guidance of the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The notice of the termination of Justice Jahangiri was warmly welcomed from the point of view of the IG inspector of the scene of the crime, who made the conclusion in his report regarding the incident. It was in accordance with the decision of the trial that the officer was declared guilty and instructed to take leave from his post.

The notification was subsequently matched by a similar note issued from the Federal Ministry of Law that, according to a court decision dated December 15, 2025, had been signed by the President removing Justice Jahangiri.

The note also explained that the action against Justice Jahangiri was going to be immediately enforced, according to the court’s ruling.

Previously, an HC-2 bench comprising CJI Sarfraz Dogar and a sibling had resolved to uphold the petition filed against Justice Jahangiri, rendering him unqualified to be a judge due to the case of a fake degree.

Besides, the verdict highlighted that the judge was provided with numerous opportunities to explain his controversial educational credentials, yet he decided to keep silent and to give no plausible exception for the conflict.

Moreover, the court said that at the time of the appointment of Justice Jahangiri as an additional judge in the Islamabad High Court, he did not possess a legitimate LLB degree in law. The same was true that his LLB degree was not valid when he was later appointed as a permanent judge of the Islamabad High ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌Court.
