PESHAWAR: All the preparations for the Senate by-election of the vacant Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly seat have been completed and the election scheduled for October 30 is ready to go ahead.
A special team from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will be at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat today to check the election arrangements. They will also meet the Speaker to get an update on the process after their visit.
Inside information reveals that the vacancy of the Senate seat is due to the disqualification of the PTI leader Shibli Faraz. To this, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has responded by nominating Shibli Faraz’s wife as the party candidate in the by-election. Five candidates in total have filed their nomination papers for this election.
The instructions from PTI to its MPAs are very clear in regard to the voting process and the conduct during elections. The party leaders have cautioned that a person who acts contrary to the party line in voting will face harsh punishment.
The Election Commission team will, at the same time, attend to the issues related to polling booths, voting methods, and security plans in the assembly hall. Voting will be held on October 30 from 9 AM to 4 PM, and the final results will be at the Assembly Secretariat on the same day.
