Senior leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party(PPP) and former Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Agha Siraj Durrani, has passed away.

Siraj Durrani had been suffering from a heart ailment since last month and was undergoing treatment in the hospital. According to his family, his health had been deteriorating continuously for the past few days and passed away today.

President and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of the former speaker and said, “Agha Siraj Durrani was a sincere, loyal, and principled leader of the PPP. His political and public services will always be remembered.”

Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah termed the death of PPP leader a great loss for the party and Sindh politics and said, “He played a key role in strengthening the Sindh Assembly and strengthening democracy.” He always made public service the axis of his politics.

Provincial Interior Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar also paid tribute to the former Sindh speaker and said, “Politicians like Agha Siraj Durrani are born rarely and their services will always be remembered.” Agha Siraj Durrani was one of the senior leaders of the PPP who was associated with the party for more than four decades. He had been the provincial minister three times and the speaker of the Sindh Assembly twice. He was a close associate of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed and Asif Ali Zardari.
