ISLAMABAD: The Secretary General of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muhammad Humayun Khan, has stated that the party envisions sovereign and economically stable provinces. During a recent meeting, he emphasized that the PPP aims to strengthen the provinces.
Humayun Khan expressed that the PPP has clearly outlined its position on the 27th Constitutional Amendment. He asserted that the party will not compromise on provincial autonomy, parliamentary supremacy, and federal harmony, and cannot support any proposals that would withdraw or limit the constitutional powers of the provinces.
He further emphasized that democracy, the constitution, and public representation are essential to Pakistan’s unity and development. If the 27th Amendment includes proposals that enhance the system of government, promote public welfare, and establish balance in the federal system, the parliament is open to consultation, he said. Khan reaffirmed that the stability of the democratic system, the supremacy of the constitution, and provincial autonomy are fundamental to Pakistan’s strength.
In related news, the cabinet has approved the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, which is set to introduce major changes in the structure of the army and judiciary. Details about significant changes have emerged from the draft constitutional amendment prepared by the federal government. This includes the creation of a new position for the army chief and substantial reforms in the judiciary’s structure.
The draft proposes amendments to 48 articles within the constitutional framework. Additionally, it recommends the establishment of a Federal Constitutional Court that would operate separately from the Supreme Court.
