ISLAMABAD: Reports indicate that powerful explosions have struck eastern Afghanistan, targeting militant facilities in the provinces of Paktika and Nangarhar.

According to Afghan media, airstrikes in Paktika caused loud explosions in the Kooz Bhar area of Khogyani district Nangarhar which targeted a suspected militant training center.

Nangharhar sources report that multiple militants died during an attack which included the death of a senior commander. The Margha area of Paktika witnessed airstrikes which resulted in the death of more than ten militants while several others sustained injuries.

The reports indicate that extremist groups operated from the locations which they attacked. Some sources indicate that the Paktika facility was linked to commander Akhtar Muhammad who is reportedly associated with external militant groups.

Moreover, Afghan media reports claimed that airstrikes have targeted and destroyed terrorist facilities in the eastern provinces of Paktika, Paktia, Khost, and Nangarhar.

The operation resulted in the death of more than ten militants while the military destroyed several militant hideouts. The strikes specifically targeted strongholds that extremist groups used throughout the region.

Some reports suggest that key commanders were among those eliminated, though official confirmation is still pending. The Afghan authorities will announce more details about the situation once they acquire new information.

The eastern Afghan airstrikes target rising militant activity which creates persistent security problems for the region.
