PESHAWAR: The Education Monitoring Authority (EMA) reported that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa matriculation examinations faced serious irregularities because they detected suspicious activities at 39 percent of examination centers.
The report revealed that inspectors checked 566 examination centers to document the numerous breaches of examination rules. The centers had 16 percent of their areas occupied by unauthorized individuals which created concerns about the centers’ ability to enforce examination rules.
The regional data showed that Kohat had the highest rate of suspicious activities because 50 percent of its centers received suspicious activity alerts which Bannu followed at 49 percent. The Malakand and Abbottabad areas reported 49 percent and 34 percent respectively.
Kohat and Bannu emerged as the two areas with the highest occurrence of unauthorized individuals because 35 percent of centers faced this issue.
The issue became worse because the infrastructure had multiple deficiencies. About 31 percent of centers experienced power failures or poor lighting conditions while 8 percent of centers did not have drinking water facilities. The centers provided insufficient student seating arrangements which affected 5 percent of their areas.
Officials reported that the provincial government provided all education board chairpersons and the Secretary of Education with access to a real-time monitoring system which supports evidence-based decision-making.
The EMA instructed relevant agencies to fix all found defects because these defects prevented the examination process from achieving its essential transparency and fairness requirements.
