PESHAWAR: Recent incidents of terrorism and continuous attacks on police personnel in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially the southern districts (Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan), have raised serious questions about the morale and security of the provincial police force.

Anxiety is growing among police officers and personnel regarding their safety and government policies.

‎Several personnel including the SHO were martyred in suicide and targeted attacks in DI Khan and Bajaur in mid-February 2026, which has created a sense of insecurity in the force.

According to intelligence reports, the banned organization ‘Fitnat al-Khawarij’ has intensified its campaign to target police personnel, after which police personnel have started expressing their concerns on social media and various forums.

‎Police personnel maintain that they are not being provided with the latest weapons, thermal guns, and armored vehicles to fight terrorists, due to which the loss of life is increasing.

‎ In the southern districts, officials who are going home on leave are also being targeted, which is causing fear and panic among their families.

A large section of the police force feels that due to political conflict and the cold war between the provincial and federal governments, the law and order situation is not being given the attention it deserves.

‎The effects of the recent police protests in Bannu and Lakki Marwat are still lingering, where the jawans made it clear that it would be difficult to perform their duties if they were not given complete security and operational freedom.

‎The IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chief Minister Sohail Afridi have announced various measures to boost the morale of the police. The government claims that the package for police martyrs has been increased.

Defense experts say that this restlessness among the police is not just an administrative problem but a major challenge for the state, because if the confidence of the frontline forces is shaken, it will be impossible to fight terrorism.
