ISLAMABAD: The National Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has issued an announcement that a national polio vaccination campaign will begin today in 159 districts across the country.

According to an official statement issued by the EOC, the campaign will take place between October 13 and October 19, with the target population being close to 45.4 million children, who will be given polio drops in this week-long drive.

The children will adjacently receive an extra dosage of Vitamin A in addition to the polio vaccine, to enhance the overall health of the participating children. More than 400,000 health workers will be deployed by visiting door-to-door in the homes of children to ensure that as many as possible, receive polio drops.

The EOC also stated that a polio campaign will take place in South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between October 20 and October 23 as well.

Parents have been requested to ensure the drops are given, for all children five years and under.

Authorities also advised parents to make sure that an injury immunization has been completed for all children from the ages of birth to 15 months for prevention of many preventable diseases.
