DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Dera Ismail Khan police on Wednesday recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from the secret compartments of a double-cabin van and arrested the suspect.

Arms were being smuggled from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Balochistan. The Dera Police took timely action and foiled the attempt, DPO Dera’s briefing.

District Police Officer Dera Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada, while briefing the media at Ijaz Shaheed Police Lines, said that Suburban Circle Police, SDPO Kashif Sattar and SHO Asghar Khan Wazir received information about the presence of a large quantity of arms and ammunition in the informant’s double-cabin van.

He said that, taking immediate action, they strategically blockaded Dera Bannu Road and stopped a silver-coloured double-cabin van number RE- 314 coming from Peshawar to Dera Ismail Khan for checking. On stopping and checking the vehicle, a large quantity of arms and ammunition was found in the secret compartments of the van, which included 03 SMGs, 39 pistols 30 bore, 05 pistols 30 bore Mauser-like, 02 M4 rifles, 04 pistols 9 mm, 340 SMG magazines and 16430 cartridges of different bores were recovered, after which the police arrested the accused Hameedullah son of Khan Faqir Qom Yousafzai, resident of Mardan district, who was riding in the vehicle as per the procedure and seized the vehicle along with the weapons.

DPO Dera further said that the value of the seized weapons is close to lakhs of rupees, which were being smuggled from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Balochistan. DI Khan police, taking timely action, have foiled an attempt to smuggle a large consignment of weapons and ammunition.
