PESHAWAR: The investigation into the multi-million rupee robbery at the National Bank branch on Kohat Road has been expanded across several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Capital City Police have included 10 suspects in the probe as they work to track down the group responsible for looting over 5.3 kilograms of gold and Rs 13.7 million from the Murshidabad Chowk branch.

The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Bhaana Mari Police Station, where unidentified individuals entered the bank by drilling a hole through a rear wall. The perpetrators used welding cylinders to breach the vault and internal doors. To hinder identification, the robbers dismantled and took away the bank’s CCTV cameras, NVRs, servers, and other IT equipment, leaving no immediate digital evidence for investigators.

In response to the heist, the banking sector has reportedly convened an emergency meeting to review security protocols. Police sources confirmed they are collaborating with law enforcement in other districts to intercept the suspects. Yesterday, dozens of concerned locker holders, including many women, gathered at the bank seeking information on their assets.

Specialised investigation teams are scheduled to question bank officials, nearby shopkeepers, and local residents today. A high-level team remains focused on various technical and forensic aspects of the case to overcome the challenges posed by the theft of the surveillance hardware.
