Police arrest PTI founder’s sisters

RAWALPINDI: Police carried out an operation and detained several workers during the sit-in of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aleema Khan at Gorakhpur and Factory checkpoints near Adiala Jail.

According to reports, Aleema Khan refused to end the sit-in on Adiala Road, after which the police called in a contingent of female officers and removed the workers participating in the sit-in.

The police took 8 to 10 workers into custody and shifted them to a prisoner van, while Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Khan were also detained.

Noreen​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Niazi’s condition worsened while she was part of the sit-in, and a power outage left the area around the Factory checkpoint in total darkness.

Aleema Khan said to the press that we have always conducted ourselves with dignity, but the treatment we got today is beyond endurance. There were female police officers who were dragging us violently on the road.”

The police requested several times for the protesters to clear the way, but after talks failed, the police used water cannons and dispersed the demonstration.

Also, Member of National Assembly Shahid Khattak and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Minister Meena Afridi were taken away by the ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌police.

According to police sources, the arrested have been shifted to an unknown location and the routes leading to Adiala Jail are blocked, due to which they were not allowed to meet Imran Khan.

A large number of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers were participating in the sit-in, and the incident has further increased tension in the country’s political landscape.
