PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has indicated that the cold wave is intensifying, and additional rain and snowfall are expected in the coming days, which may result in lower temperatures.

A severe cold wave continues to affect Pakistan, with the Meteorological Department warning of more rain and snowfall due to an incoming western weather system.

More rain and snowfall are expected in various parts of the country due to the arrival of a new westerly wind in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa starting today and continuing until January 27.

This westerly wind is anticipated to enter the western regions of the country tonight and will spread to the northern regions by Monday. In particular, the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to experience increased rain and snowfall from tonight through Tuesday, with heavy snowfall predicted in some areas.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) warns of potential landslides and avalanches in the upper districts due to the expected rain and snowfall.

Recently, rainfall in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several other areas has already contributed to decreased temperatures. Meanwhile, Murree and the upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are experiencing fresh snowfall, transforming the landscape into a winter wonderland.

In light of these changing weather conditions, authorities have instructed all relevant departments to remain vigilant and ensure that precautionary and emergency measures are in place to address any potential issues.

The PMD has advised citizens, particularly those traveling to hilly and northern areas, to exercise caution as fluctuating weather may lead to slippery roads, reduced visibility, and travel disruptions.

Rain, wind, and thunderstorms, accompanied by periods of heavy snowfall, are expected in various regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ganche, Shigar, Kashmir, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Rawalakot, Haveli, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Peshawar, Nowshera, Swabi, Malakand, Mardan, Kohat, Kurram, Khyber, Hangu, Bajur, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Waziristan, Murree, Galliat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, Sargodha, Mianwali, Gujranwala, Multan, Layyah, Bhakkar, and Dera Ghazi Khan on January 26th and 27th, with occasional gaps in activity.

There is also a possibility of landslides and avalanches in the hilly areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir during this period.

Tourists are advised to exercise extreme caution and to avoid unnecessary travel during the forecasted weather conditions.
