NEW YORK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday left for Geneva, Switzerland, after concluding his visit to the United States where he addressed the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In Geneva, the Prime Minister will inquire about the health of former premier Nawaz Sharif and brief him on the outcomes of his US visit. He is scheduled to travel onward to London today (Saturday), where he will stay for three days.
During his UNGA address in New York, Shehbaz Sharif began his speech with a verse from the Holy Quran and commended UN Secretary-General António Guterres for steering the organisation through challenging times.
He highlighted the growing number of humanitarian crises worldwide, the rising threat of terrorism, and the dangers posed by fake news and propaganda in eroding public trust. Stressing that climate change is an existential challenge, he also accused India of political exploitation of global conflicts, citing the Pahalgam incident as an example.
The Prime Minister further stated that under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir during the recent conflict, Pakistan delivered a decisive response to Indian aggression. He said the Pakistan Air Force displayed professional excellence by shooting down six Indian aircraft, a historic action he claimed India “will never forget.”
