Dense fog has blanketed several cities across the country, prompting Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to issue a nationwide fog alert on Saturday amid the risk of disruptions to flight operations.

A PIA spokesperson said reduced visibility could result in delays, rescheduling, and operational adjustments at airports across Pakistan. Passengers were advised to ensure that correct and alternate contact details are provided at the time of booking to allow timely communication in case of schedule changes.

The national flag carrier urged travellers to remain in contact with its call centre for the latest updates, as adverse weather conditions continue to affect aviation activity.

Flight operations were also impacted by severe weather in Dubai and dense fog in Lahore, leading to delays, diversions, and cancellations of both domestic and international flights.

Airport officials said heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions in Dubai prevented dozens of flights from departing, creating knock-on effects for regional air traffic. In Lahore, sudden spells of dense fog during late-night and early-morning hours disrupted landing and take-off operations.

At Allama Iqbal International Airport, more than 15 inbound and outbound flights were affected. Several domestic and international services were delayed, while some arriving flights were diverted due to sharply reduced visibility.

Officials said a Saudi Gulf Airlines flight and a PIA service were diverted to Islamabad International Airport owing to poor weather conditions in Lahore.

Departures from Lahore, including flights operated by SaudiGulf Airlines and other carriers, faced delays ranging from one to four hours. Passengers reported extended waiting times as airlines adjusted schedules in response to changing weather conditions.

The Pakistan Airports Authority said weather-related disruptions were continuing and advised passengers to check with their respective airlines before heading to the airport.

Officials said flight operations were expected to stabilise once weather conditions improve, though further delays could not be ruled out if fog and rain persist.
