PESHAWAR (Kamran Ali Shah) The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday heard a petition seeking the expansion of the local government system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The hearing was conducted by a two-member bench comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Fahim Wali. During the proceedings, petitioner’s counsel, Babar Khan Yousafzai, Advocate, informed the court that the petition was filed to expand the local government system across the province.

The lawyer argued that the term of the local government representatives had been completed and that no funds were released to them during their tenure. He further submitted that the local government system should be expanded through amendments to the Local Government Act.

Responding to the arguments, the Additional Advocate General told the court that the provincial government had constituted a committee to address the matter.

The court directed the provincial government to submit the committee’s notification, noting that the matter would be reviewed again after the declaration is examined.
