PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Monday has taken notices of the poor conditions at the Peshawar Zoo and has issued notices to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, Peshawar Zoo administration, secretaries of Livestock, Wildlife and Private animal welfare committee.

Peshawar High Court judges, Justice Waqar Ahmad and Justice Farah Jamshed heard the petitions filed by a citizen through his lawyer at the PHC regarding the dismissal conditions at the Peshawar Zoo.

The complainant stated in his petition that animals at the Peshawar Zoo are facing problems, and they were being provided with substandard food and kept without facilities.

Following hearing the case, the court issued notices to the provincial government, Peshawar Zoo administration and Secretary Livestock, Secretary Wildlife Department and Private Animal Welfare Committee.
The court has sought responses from the parties in the next hearing
“Animals are being given poor quality of food in the Peshawar Zoo; there are no facilities,” petitioner Shahid Ali Yaftai, Advocate said.

He said that animals also had fundamental rights, and it was the responsibility of the Zoo administration to provide facilities to the animals.
The petitioner also highlighted the parking issue and the lack of computerise ticketing system in the Zoo.
The court issued notices to the provincial government, Peshawar Zoo Administration, Secretary Wildlife and Secretary Livestock and the Private Animal Welfare Committee
The court has sought responses from the parties by November 17.
