PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court Chief Justice S.M. Atiq Shah has expressed strong anger over the non-implementation of court orders regarding inactive Basic Health Centres (BHUs) in South Waziristan.
During the hearing of the petition filed in the Peshawar High Court, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah and Advocate General appeared in the court. Chief Justice said in clear words that it is very sad that despite the court orders, the relevant institutions are not able to implement them. The people of the province are already deprived of basic facilities, create convenience for the people here, not difficulties.
The Chief Justice warned the authorities that the court’s instructions should be taken seriously otherwise, strict legal action will be taken. During the hearing, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah assured the court that he would personally ensure the implementation of the court orders, and a weekly report in this regard would be submitted to the court.
The court, taking the assurance of the Chief Secretary as part of the record, adjourned the hearing of the case till a later date. Dozens of BHUs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially South Waziristan, have been inactive for years, due to which the local population is deprived of basic health facilities. The court’s suo motu notice and strong stance on this important humanitarian issue are being highly appreciated in the region.
