Peshawar High Court Chief Justice SM Atiq Shah heard a contempt of court petition filed against the inclusion of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Member of National Assembly Sher Ali Arbab’s name in the stop list.
The court has sought a detailed response from the Immigration and Passport Department on the next hearing. During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer Bassam Ahmed Siddiqui Advocate told the court that his client Sher Ali Arbab was going to Brazil when he was stopped at the airport.
The High Court had approached against this move, on which the court had formally allowed him to go abroad. However, despite the court’s orders, when he reached the airport to depart again, he was stopped once again, which is a clear contempt of court.
The defence counsel further said that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) while submitting its response has taken the position that they did not stop the petitioner, but this action was taken by the Immigration and Passport Department.
On the other hand, the Assistant Attorney General requested the court to grant time to the Immigration and Passport Department to submit its response. The court, while accepting the request, ordered the concerned department to submit its report at the next hearing.
