PESHAWAR: The Peshawar region police on Sunday busted a group who were attempting to smuggle nearly one million fake currency notes. 

According to the police, the raid conducted within the Chamkani Police Station and the police foiled an attempt to smuggle 980,000 fake currency.

They said a full-scale crackdown is underway against various criminal elements across the district.
In this regard, SHO Chamkani Police Station Ismat Khan, along with other police personnel, foiled an attempt to smuggle fake currency during an important operation and arrested the accused Jahangir Shah, son of Rehman Shah, resident of Nowshera district.
The accused was trying to smuggle fake Pakistani currency. Upon receiving a tip-off, an operation was launched at the GT Road Kala Mandi, the blockade of Chamkani Police Station.
980,000 Pakistani fake currency notes have also been recovered from the possession of the accused.
During the investigation, the accused confessed to being involved in the business of smuggling fake currency.
A case has been registered against him, and further investigation is underway.
