PESHAWAR: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) announced on Thursday that the M-1 Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway has been reopened to traffic, providing relief to travellers after closures caused by thick fog.
Previously, the motorway had been closed from the Peshawar Toll Plaza to the Rashakai interchange due to fog and reduced visibility, which created significant safety hazards. The NHMP emphasised that the closures were implemented solely to prevent accidents and protect the lives and belongings of travellers. An NHMP representative advised drivers to exercise caution during foggy conditions. Motorists are encouraged to use their rear fog lights, maintain greater distances between vehicles, avoid speeding, and, if possible, travel during daylight hours. It is also advisable to avoid unnecessary travel in the morning during periods of fog.

Motorway users are encouraged to call the NHMP helpline at 130 for updates on traffic and weather conditions before setting out on their journey.
Previously, late last night, the NHMP closed the motorway from Peshawar to Islamabad for all types of traffic due to dense fog. An official from the NHMP stated that the motorway is currently shut down, advising citizens to use the Grand Trunk Road for any emergency travel until the motorway reopens.
The closure affects several sections of the road due to poor visibility from fog, specifically from the M-1 Peshawar Toll Plaza (km 498) to Rashakai (km 459). Motorists are being redirected to the Grand Trunk Road.
