PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said that sustainable peace in the region is not possible without resolving issues between Pakistan and Afghanistan, stressing that dialogue between the two sides is essential and closing the border or taking aggressive measures is not a solution to the situation.

While talking to the media in Peshawar, Salman Akram Raja said that the recent attacks by Afghanistan were regrettable. However, he said that the economic and social ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan are so deep that problems would not be resolved by closing the border. He said, “We have to create such conditions that there is no terrorism in either Afghanistan or Pakistan. Peace is not possible until there is dialogue.”

Salman Akram Raja, reacting to the opposition’s criticism, said that the opposition’s efforts have failed and the democratic process is moving forward continuously. He termed the opposition’s concerns as “childish” and said that any disagreement or split in the party was baseless.

Talking about the tension over the swearing-in of the Chief Minister, he said that there was no justification for stopping the swearing-in, and if it did not happen today, it would happen tomorrow. Salman Akram Raja expressed confidence in Sohail Afridi’s leadership and said that he had been a minister before and had an experienced team around him.

In response to a question, he clarified that PTI has no intention of marching towards Islamabad and all political issues will be resolved within the constitutional and legal framework. Salman Akram Raja’s statements on the one hand emphasized the need for peace and dialogue, while on the other hand pointed to the need for tolerance and rule of law in the current situation on the political front.
