CHARSADDA: Former central ameer of Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan, Siraj ul Haq, addresses a press conference in Charsadda on Saturday. He emphasized that war is not a solution to any problem; peace can be achieved through the jirga and dialogue systems.
Siraj ul Haq stated that a war between Pakistan and Afghanistan would be disastrous for both countries. He reiterated that external forces aim to incite conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan and called for all political parties and scholars to contribute to peace through the jirga system. He warned that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be the region most affected in the event of war.
He welcomed the establishment of the Peace Jirga and urged all parties to participate in it. Additionally, he criticized the hasty passing of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, stating it is against democratic principles.
He pointed out that there was no state of emergency in the country that justified such a rapid amendment.
Siraj ul Haq described the practice of passing the amendment by offering incentives to political parties as an insult to the public mandate. He expressed concern that the amendment limits provincial powers while increasing the power of the federation, calling it an attempt to impose civil martial law under the guise of democracy.
He argued that, similar to the 18th Amendment, there should be public consultation regarding the 27th Amendment. He asserted that development in the country is impossible without the rule of law and transparent elections. Siraj ul Haq remarked that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has become like a sandwich in terms of law and order, criticizing both the federation and the province for failing to fulfill their responsibilities, which leaves the public to suffer the consequences.
He concluded by affirming that Jamaat-e-Islami will continue its struggle for the rule of law and provincial autonomy.
