Provincial Disaster Management Authority has release preliminary report regarding loss of life and property due to the ongoing rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to which 26 people have died so far while 77 people have been injured in incidents of roofs and walls collapsing in different districts of the province. The dead include 18 children, 5 women and 3 men, while the injured include 35 children, 33 men and 9 women. The report states that a total of 102 houses were damaged due to the rains, out of which 20 houses were completely destroyed while 82 houses were partially damaged.
The districts affected by these accidents include Bannu, Abbottabad, Kohat, Peshawar, Nowshera, Bajaur, Lakki Marwat, Kurram, Hangu, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Upper Dir, Battagram, North Waziristan and Tank. PDMA, Rescue 1122 and all the relevant departments of the district administration are in touch with each other and relief activities are going on in full swing in the affected areas.
DG PDMA has directed the administration of all the affected districts, especially the worst-hit district of Bannu, to ensure immediate provision of relief materials and compensation to the families of the deceased and other victims.
This new series of rains in the province has started from April 1 and is likely to continue intermittently till April 4, in view of which the public has been appealed to avoid unnecessary travel and visiting sensitive tourist spots and strictly follow the advisories issued by government agencies.
