PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has predicted heavy rains and glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) events in various parts of the province in the next 48 hours.

The PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa issued an alert on Monday, stating that there are chances of heavy rains and GLOF in the northern areas of the province.

The PDMA statement has advised the residents of Upper and Lower Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Upper Kohistan to remain vigilant concerning potential glacier eruptions.

The district administration has been instructed to monitor sensitive areas closely and to conduct timely warnings and evacuation drills. Additionally, people are urged to avoid unnecessary movement near rivers and refrain from driving vehicles through fast-flowing water.

Evacuation sites are prepared in areas that may be affected, and emergency equipment and rescue services have been put on alert. Tourists are also advised to be cautious and take necessary precautions in the event of any emergencies.

Furthermore, the National Highways Authority (NHA), Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), and the Communications and Works Department (C&W) have been directed to stay alert and implement preventive measures for the timely restoration of roads.

The PDMA has emphasised the need for the district administration to take emergency actions if any danger arises. An awareness campaign has also been launched to educate the public about measures to prevent potential losses.
