PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Tuesday issued a high alert to all district administrations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a series of westerly winds is likely to enter the province on the night of March 24.

According to the PDMA statement, the weather system is likely to persist until March 31, bringing rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms to most districts. Heavy rain and snowfall are predicted for the upper districts, including Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Dir Lower, Dir Upper, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Swabi. Meanwhile, the plains of Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Kurram, and Waziristan are expected to experience rain and windstorms.

PDMA statement noted, intermittent heavy rainfall and localised hailstorms are anticipated across the province from March 28 to 30. The authority warned that heavy downpours pose a significant risk of flash floods in local rivers and canals, while landslides remain a threat in hilly areas.

Tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during this period. The PDMA also cautioned that strong winds and lightning could damage weak structures, electricity poles, and solar panels.

District administrations, Rescue 1122, and other relevant institutions have been directed to remain vigilant and ensure all precautionary measures are in place to manage potential emergencies. Citizens are urged to stay in safe locations and exercise caution throughout the stormy weather.
