PESHAWAR (Salman Yousfzai): A controversy has emerged at the Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD) in Peshawar after a patient was allegedly charged for blood at the hospital’s blood bank.
According to sources, on December 25-2025, a blood bank employee reportedly provided blood to Shah Hussain, a patient who had traveled from Shangla for surgery, in exchange for Rs4,000. A receipt was allegedly issued upon collection of the payment.
Footage from inside the hospital reportedly shows the patient claiming that he was charged for the blood.
Following the incident, the patient’s attendant filed a written complaint with the blood bank officer.
Initial action led to the refund of the amount from the employee, and a three-member inquiry committee of doctors was formed to investigate the matter.
Sources said the inquiry has been completed; however, neither the report has been made public nor any disciplinary action taken.
It is also reported that the technician in question had previously faced complaints, but no clear action had been taken against him.
Hospital authorities confirmed that they received the written complaint.
According to deputy director Dr Sajad the patient has been contacted and further investigation will be conducted to resolve the matter.
