PESHAWAR (Salman Yousfzai): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department has made the teaching of Pashto mandatory in all government schools across the province, from primary to intermediate levels.
A formal letter issued by the District Education Officer of Nowshera outlines this directive, and written instructions have been sent to schools in various districts for implementation.
According to the letter, all heads of government schools are required to ensure that Pashto is taught in all classes at their respective institutions. The letter specifies that Pashto will be a compulsory subject up to the intermediate level (second year).
The Education Department has instructed principals, headmasters, and sub-divisional education officers to implement this decision immediately.
Furthermore, the letter warns that failure to comply with these instructions may lead to accountability for the heads of the concerned institutions or District Education Officers, with possible disciplinary action.
The objective of this initiative, as stated by the Education Department, is to promote the mother tongue in the province, preserve cultural identity, and strengthen the educational foundation of students.
