ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has been on the map of higher education in a big way as eight Pakistani universities were listed in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026.
PIEAS, Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences, was the first choice of the panel and it is worth mentioning that it is located in Islamabad, as the institute achieved the rank of 238th position. Air University also in Islamabad ranked 328th. Bahria University Karachi got ranked 416th, and Islamia University Bahawalpur secured the 434th position, becoming the leading university in southern Punjab region.
Besides, these six Pakistani universities:
University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pattoki – 607th
Hazara University, Mansehra – 614th
University of Swat – between 761–770
University of Sahiwal – between 951–1000
The QS rankings, which have been conducted every year since 2009, take into account a variety of factors to rank the universities. These factors include academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, international research networks, research output, citations, the proportion of faculty with PhD, the number of international faculty and students, and student exchange programs.
The present rankings cover 1,500 plus universities all over the Asia region. The University of Hong Kong leads the ranking, followed by Peking University, China and Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore sharing the third position.

While Pakistani universities become part of the listings, it confirms their implementation of good-quality research, qualifications of teaching staff, and international collaborations.
