ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has said Pakistan is working to reduce the regional tensions in Iran and neighbouring Middle East and firmly stood by brethern countries of middle east in this difficult situation.

While addressing the nation on Monday late evening, PM Shehbaz Sharif said escalating regional tension was a highly concerning issue, and Pakistan was putting its efforts to de-escalate the situation through diplomacy.

“Pakistan has been striving to ensure maximum relief to the public while taking difficult and crucial steps for fuel conservation.” PM Shehbaz said.

PM Shehbaz said that half of the government employees will work remotely, while two weeks’ holiday is being granting to the government employees and educational institutions.

In his address to the nation, he stated, “Today I am addressing you about a very serious and dangerous situation facing the region. Unfortunately, the entire region, including Iran and the Middle East, is currently in the grip of a severe war situation. The loss of innocent lives, the suffering of displaced families, and the threats to peace are a cause of deep concern for all of us.”

He said that Pakistan is trying to resolve matters through deliberation and diplomacy in this tense situation.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan condemns the Israeli attacks on Iran, while also strongly condemning the attacks on Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, the UAE, and Bahrain.

He added that Pakistan stands shoulder to shoulder with these countries in this hour of trial.

The Prime Minister noted that the national economy depends on oil and gas from the Gulf, and the price of crude oil in the global market has increased from $60 to over $100.

The Prime Minister clarified that Pakistan took difficult decisions in view of the current global situation.

He said that the increase in oil prices was done with a heavy heart. While a multifold increase in the prices of petroleum products was proposed, the government took a middle path to ensure the burden on the people was minimised.

Shehbaz Sharif said that if the situation does not improve, the prices of petroleum products may increase again, but efforts will be made to put the least possible burden on the public.

Regarding the austerity drive, the Prime Minister announced that the salaries of Members of Parliament are being cut by 25 per cent, while all ministers, advisors, and special assistants will not take salaries for the next two months. Moreover, a ban has been imposed on foreign visits for the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and cabinet members.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered that government vehicles remain off-road for a period of two months, though public transport will be exempt from this restriction.

In a move to curb state spending, the Prime Minister has issued strict orders banning the procurement of luxury items in all government offices.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the recent Israeli attacks on Iran, expressing concern over the escalating regional tensions.

As part of a new administrative policy, the Prime Minister announced that half of all government employees will now work remotely.
