NEW YORK: Asim Iftikhar, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations and Head of the Islamophobia Core Group, in his address to a special event to commemorate the Global Day to Combat Islamophobia at the United Nations General Assembly, reiterated the need to take concrete measures to address the issue of Islamophobia.
The Iftikhar address proved that Islamophobia does indeed exist as a global phenomenon, which impacts millions of Muslims all over the world. He also emphasized that nobody should be targeted based on their religious or ideological beliefs and that everyone has the right to follow their religion without any discrimination or hatred.
Iftikhar explained that Islamophobia exists as worldwide problem that needs international collaboration to solve. Social groups must develop practical solutions that will stop the increasing danger of this threat, according to him.
The Pakistani diplomat also pointed out that one of the main drivers of Islamophobia is the spread of misinformation and harmful stereotypes about Islam and Muslims. The negative depiction of Muslims through media channels and public discussions creates a situation that results in people developing fundamental biases against Muslims while keeping their distance from them.
The request by Iftikhar requires countries to build better systems that will prevent false information dissemination while they develop educational programs about Islam. He stated that international collaboration needs to increase until religious tolerance and mutual respect become essential components of societal development.
Iftikhar said that Muslims all over the world are feeling pain due to Islamophobic statements and actions. Human rights implementation needs practical measures that will help all people safeguard their personal dignity.
The meeting was held at the UN headquarters to support Pakistan’s efforts in bringing international attention to the issue of Islamophobia. This call to action is of great significance and importance because Islamophobia is an issue that touches on individuals and communities all over the world.
Iftikhar ended his speech by stating that Pakistan is ready to fight Islamophobia together with all other countries for all individuals from different religious backgrounds to coexist harmoniously in the world.
