ISLAMABAD: The Political Committee of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) strongly condemned the increase of Rs55 per litre in petrol and high-speed diesel prices, terming it a massive inflation bomb imposed on the public.

It said the government, which PTI alleges came to power through Form 47, had failed to provide relief to citizens and instead burdened them with rising costs, while the ruling elite continues to enjoy lavish privileges.

The committee contrasted the current situation with the tenure of former prime minister Imran Khan, stating that his government managed to provide relief to the public despite global economic pressures during the COVID-19 pandemic and rising international commodity prices.

PTI leaders said the government should have reduced the petroleum levy to shield citizens from global price shocks, particularly at a time when poverty levels in the country are rising.

The committee also expressed concern over Imran Khan’s health and recent amendments to accountability laws. It reiterated its demand that he be immediately shifted to Shifa International Hospital so that medical treatment can be conducted in the presence of his family and personal physicians.

During the meeting, the party also discussed its future political strategy and organizational matters. A special committee titled daily issues was formed to respond promptly to political developments and shape the party’s narrative.

The committee decided to intensify communication efforts to ensure PTI’s political message reaches every member and voter. Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram will highlight key political issues on a daily basis, while party members have been directed to regularly share written or video content in support of the party’s narrative.

The meeting also decided to prepare a plan for extensive public and political activities on Pakistan Day, observed annually on March 23.

Additionally, PTI said meetings with two key opposition leaders are scheduled for next week to further advance political cooperation.

The committee authorised Sohail Afridi, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to expand his cabinet. It was also decided that the political committee will hold daily meetings at 2:30pm to deliberate on political messaging and strategy.
