ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s cross-border operation targeting seven alleged terrorist hideouts in Afghanistan has resulted in additional militant casualties, with 12 more deaths confirmed, bringing the total number of militants killed to 40, according to security sources.
According to security sources, the intelligence-based operation targeted militant camps and facilities which militant groups used to conduct their recent attacks against Pakistan.
Officials confirmed that the operation successfully executed border area missions to destroy terrorist operations while stopping potential future attacks.
The operation destroyed several enemy hideouts which resulted in major disruptions to militant operations across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The government has declared that protecting Pakistani citizens remains its top responsibility.
The operation assessment process will provide additional information about the operation as it progresses.
Powerful explosions rock Paktika and Nangarhar, key commander killed
Earlier, reports indicate that powerful explosions have struck eastern Afghanistan, targeting militant facilities in the provinces of Paktika and Nangarhar.
According to Afghan media, airstrikes in Paktika caused loud explosions in the Kooz Bhar area of Khogyani district Nangarhar which targeted a suspected militant training center.
Nangharhar sources report that multiple militants died during an attack which included the death of a senior commander. The Margha area of Paktika witnessed airstrikes which resulted in the death of more than ten militants while several others sustained injuries.
The reports indicate that extremist groups operated from the locations which they attacked. Some sources indicate that the Paktika facility was linked to commander Akhtar Muhammad who is reportedly associated with external militant groups.
