ISLAMABAD: Pakistan achieved a surprising victory over perennial rivals New Zealand 2–1 on day 2 of the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) 12 & Under Intercontinental Team Competition 2025 taking place in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.
Pakistan is in Group C, along with Korea and New Zealand, rebounding strongly after losing narrowly on day 1 to the number one seed, Korea, in what was described as a very close encounter and ended 2–1.
There are 12 nations represented in this international tournament, including Australia, Africa (CAT), China, Chinese Taipei, South America (COSAT), Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Korea, New Zealand, Pacific Oceania, Pakistan, and Thailand.
President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi congratulated the team on their success over New Zealand. “Our boys are playing terrifically in this high-standard event. Even in the match against Korea, they played wonderfully. I hope they can continue to do this in the rest of the competition,” he said.

PTF Secretary-General Col (R) Zia-ud-din Tufail dubbed the performance as notable. “Our players are performing well and we are confident they will be able to maintain performances of this level right through the championship”, he said.
