Pakistan has categorically rejected the recent statement made by the US Director of National Intelligence regarding Pakistani missile capabilities, calling it contrary to reality.

Responding to media queries, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Indira B clarified that Pakistan’s strategic capabilities are purely defensive in nature, the sole purpose of which is to protect national sovereignty and ensure lasting peace and stability in South Asia.

The spokesperson emphasized that Pakistan’s missile program is far below the intercontinental range and is based entirely on the doctrine of minimum defensive capability against India.

The statement, while pointing to India’s aggressive ambitions, said that India’s development of missiles with a range of more than 12,000 kilometers has gone far beyond the requirements of regional security, which should be a cause of deep concern for the entire region and the international community.

The Foreign Office spokesperson further said that Pakistan seeks constructive relations with the United States on the basis of mutual respect, accuracy of facts and non-discrimination. However, the United States should adopt a serious and realistic approach keeping in mind the strategic situation in South Asia so that the mission of peace and security in the region can be strengthened.
