Kandahar, Afghanistan: Pakistani security forces have carried out retaliatory strikes across the border following provocation from militants based in Afghanistan.

According to security sources, the response involved artillery and aerial operations targeting positions linked to the Taliban. The strikes were carried out after hostile activities along the border.

Security sources said that aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force targeted multiple strategic locations in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar. At least 11 locations were reportedly hit during the operation.

The targeted sites were being used for activities that threatened security along the border. The strikes caused significant damage to the positions, according to initial reports.

Security sources stated that the action was taken to safeguard national security and to send a strong message against cross-border provocations. However, independent confirmation of the damage and casualties was not immediately available.

Security officials said Pakistan remains committed to protecting its borders while continuing to call for stability and cooperation in the region.

Afghanistan: Badakhshan police chief killed in NRF ambush

Earlier,  the police chief of Badakhshan Province, Maulvi Mirajuddin, was killed in an ambush allegedly carried out by fighters of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF), according to local reports.

Sources said the attack took place while the police chief was traveling from Badakhshan to Takhar. His vehicle was reportedly targeted in a planned ambush by NRF fighters along the route.

Maulvi Mirajuddin died at the scene as a result of the attack. Details about possible casualties among his security personnel were not immediately available.

The National Resistance Front, an armed group opposing the current authorities in Afghanistan, has carried out several attacks in northern provinces in recent months.

Officials have not yet released a detailed statement about the incident. However, the attack highlights continuing security challenges in parts of northern Afghanistan.
