ISLAMABAD: Pakistan recently marked a significant milestone by receiving its first shipment of United States crude oil, which docked at Cnergyico’s offshore terminal in Balochistan.
The cargo was transported by the Suezmax vessel MT Pegasus. Earlier this month, reports indicated that Cnergyico planned to import 1 million barrels of oil from Vitol.
Usama Qureshi, Vice Chairman of Cnergyico Pk Limited, expressed that this inaugural shipment is a crucial development for Pakistan’s energy sector. He mentioned that two additional shipments are scheduled, one in mid-November and another in January 2026. Collectively, these three deliveries are anticipated to enhance Pakistan’s trade balance with the United States by approximately $200 million.
Qureshi emphasised that the Single Point Mooring (SPM) facility, being the only offshore crude handling terminal in the country, allows for efficient receipt of large vessels, reduces logistics costs, and improves refinery operations. He noted that these imports not only diversify Pakistan’s crude supply but also strengthen trade relations with the US and contribute to the nation’s long-term energy security.
