ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is progressing with great advancement in space technology and the first-ever hyperspectral satellite HS-1 is to be launched on October 19, 2025, from China. Cities’ development and environmental monitoring are some of the major areas where the satellite is going to help the most.

A representative of the SUPARCO (Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission) revealed that the HMS-1 satellite might increase crop yields by 15-20% through providing vital data for the enhancement of production. This satellite is also going to support disaster prediction; such events include floods, landslides, and the like, thereby enhancing Pakistan’s capability of managing and mitigating these disasters.

The launch of the HS-1 satellite is interpreted as a significant step in the direction of Pakistan’s National Space Policy and Vision 2047, as well as the entry of the country into the modern era of space applications. It also signifies Pakistan’s increasing capabilities in space technology and growing presence in the global space community.
