Pakistan’s Permanent Representative in UN Security council Asim Iftikhar said that the tension in the Middle East should be immediately ended and the parties should exercise utmost restraint to avoid further conflict.
Asim Iftikhar said that a permanent ceasefire should be established and the negotiation process should be resumed so that lasting peace can be established in the region, stressing that Pakistan continues to support a peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.
The Pakistani representative pointed out that the diplomatic deadlock over the Iranian nuclear program has made the issue more complicated and it is necessary to adopt the tried and tested principles of diplomacy for a lasting solution to the conflict.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar said that Pakistan’s position is still the same today that problems should be resolved through negotiations and all parties must cooperate for peace and stability in the region.
Regardin Afghan policy Asim Iftikhar highlighted that unless the Taliban takes action against the TTP Pakistan will be forced to implement necessary measures to protect its security. He mentioned that Afghanistan has more turned into a refuge for terrorist organizations and their proxy factions and the terrorism originating from Afghan territory continues to pose a significant and persistent threat to Pakistan.
The Pakistani diplomat said that there is clear evidence of coordination between various terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan. He also stressed that Pakistan has been able to stop these infiltrations by the terrorists due to the bravery and the sacrifices of the army and the people of the country.
